Team History
Women's soccer at Marquette began during the 1991-1992 school year as a club team. Mike Velloff, former boys head coach, helped build the girl's program as its coach during its club phase and continued to lead the team during the first four years of varsity competition. Mike Skordos took over in the 1997 season and won the first conference championship in 1998. Marquette has won every South Central Conference girls soccer title compiling a 79-0-1 record in eleven years of SCC competition. Marquette won its first regional title in 2003 under current head coach Rob Moginot. They added another in 2005, making it to the sectional final before bowing to eventual third place finisher, Belleville (Althoff). In 2009, the girls won another regional championship by beating Metro-East Lutheran 6-0 and East Richland 5-0. In the sectional, they heroically knocked off long-time post-season rival Columbia 2-1 in overtime before defeating the defending state champion Rochester 2-0 to send us to the state finals for the first time in history. In the state semi-final, our girls beat Rockford Lutheran 2-1 in overtime, and in the championship game, we controlled regulation and four overtimes, but lost in PKs.
